test 1, 2, 3… yup, this thing still works!  im finally getting around to those new years resolutions of mine justtt a few months late and figured why not add “try blogging again” to the list.  so here we go!


what are my resolutions? i thought you might ask!

  1. try blogging again (duh)
  2. get healthier
  3. learn a new language
  4. focus on my faith
  5. volunteer more
  6. be better with my money

all of these are off to a good start this january 1st march 20th, with the exception of “be better with my money”… BUT in my defense, i decided to make a few itty bitty purchases to help with said goals.


first i got myself a shiny new gold ipad mini 4 and then promptly loaded it up with some resolution friendly apps.  my fav?  the rosetta stone app!  at first i really wanted to learn greek, but then i decided french might be more practical.  oui? oui.


plus, i took six years of spanish, so hoping i can leverage some of that… HA! who am i kidding. the only things i remember how to say are margarita and quesadilla…

…which is why i also decided to splurge on a juice cleanse to kick off some healthier eating habits.  despite having only done a one day blueprint cleanse back in the day, i opted for the five day reroot cleanse from cocobeet, which is conveniently located in government center (aka on my walk to work!)  for those not familiar with cocobeet, they serve organic juice cleanses, cold-pressed juices, superfood smoothies, and vegan meals using ingredients from small batch producers and local farms whenever possible.


according to their website “the reroot is an all-liquid juice cleanse, but includes two power smoothies for extra fuel and a sense of fullness during the day.  [they] recommend this cleanse to those new to all-liquid cleansing, or for juice cleansers who require more energy throughout the day.”  the fact that this cleanse included power smoothies (aka not all green juice) really appealed to me! [note: i got three power smoothies, not two.  not sure if that was a mistake, but im not complaining.]

pick up was super easy.  i opted for daily pickups each morning so the juices would be fresh (and i wouldnt be lugging around dozens of bottles.)  a super friendly man greeted me, asked for my name, and then sent me on my way with 3 juices, 3 smoothies and a power booster.


Upon Waking: Power Booster (i ended up drinking this later in the day though since I didn’t pick up my juices until 8:15am)

Heartbeet: Beet, Coconut H20, Lime, Spirulina

Health Nuts Likely Ranking: 9 out of 10- it tastes like the earth!

Couch Potatoes Likely Ranking: 4 out of 10- it tastes. like. the earth.

My Ranking:  I love beets, so I enjoyed this.  I’m gonna go with an 8 out of 10.


8-9am: Cold-Pressed Juice

Watermelon Quench: Watermelon, Pineapple, Lemon

Health Nuts Likely Ranking: 10 out of 10- so refreshing!

Couch Potatoes Likely Ranking: 9 out of 10- all thats missing is vodka!

My Ranking: 9.5 out of 10.  it was sweeter than i expected and missing vodka but overall i loved this one! a nice start to the day.


10:30-11:30am: Cold-Pressed Juice

Green Genes: Kale, Spinach, Cucumber, Celery, Apple, Parsley, Lemon, Ginger

Health Nuts Likely Ranking: 9 out of 10- kale! did you know its a superfood?

Couch Potatoes Likely Ranking: 1 out of 10.  kale should only be used as a garnish.

My Ranking: 6.5 out of 10.  i am not a fan of green juice at all, so the fact this got above a 3 says a lot.  it had a funny after taste to me (the parsley maybe?) but i definitely liked it more than the blueprint green juice that i literally had to plug my nose to swallow.


1-2pm: Power Smoothie

Banana Chia: Banana, Homemade Almond Mylk, Dates, Chia Seeds, Flaxseeds, Cinnamon

Health Nuts Likely Ranking: 10 out of 10- i’m bananas for this power smoothie!

Couch Potatoes Likely Ranking: 9 out of 10- i cant believe i just ate a chia pet… and it tasted good.

My Ranking: 9.5 out of 10.  this was so filling and so delicious.  it was a tad heavy on the cinnamon for me, but after a few sips i didn’t notice it as much.  i tried to sip slow, but this was gone. fast.

3-4pm: Cold-Pressed Juice

Kickstart: Beet, Carrot, Apple, Ginger, Lemon

Health Nuts Likely Ranking: 10 out of 10- i feel rejuvenated!

Couch Potatoes Likely Ranking: 6 out of 10- i feel like i just drank a beet!

My Ranking: 9 out of 10- again, i love beets so this was up my alley.  definitely less earthy tasting than the power booster (think v-8 splash vs. og v-8)


i loved that the bottles were labeled with the times!

5-6pm: Power Smoothie

Green Monkey: Kale, Kiwi, Apple, Banana, Orange Juice, Lemon

Health Nuts Likely Ranking: 10 out of 10- YAAAS MORE KALE!

Couch Potatoes Likely Ranking: 8 out of 10- wait, there’s kale in this?

My Ranking: 9.5 out of 10- this was goooood. i despise kale but the banana really covered it up and made it thick.  sweet, but not too sweet.  nom.


7-8pm: Power Smoothie

Chocolate Power Mylk: Homemade Cashew Mylk, Dates, Cacao, Lucuma Powder, Sea Salt

Health Nuts Likely Ranking:  10 out of 10- i love that this is sweetened with lucuma powder!

Couch Potatoes Likely Ranking: 8.5 out of 10- tastes like a chocolate milkshake… what the @#&$ is lucuma powder? 

My Ranking: 10 out of 10.  I love cashew mylk. alot.  if you haven’t had it, i think it’s a lot creamier (and closer to the real stuff) than almond milk. plus i love chocolate.  this was a great way to end the day.  sweet (but not too sweet.)  im sad i opted for vanilla tomorrow, but maybe it will be just as good…

DAY ONE OVERALL:  I’m writing this at 9:30 pm and am full/not hating my life.  Gotta say- the power smoothies are actually really satisfying!  I was really tempted to eat solid foods when I saw a blueberry mascarpone cake in the cafeteria today so decided I should not walk through there the rest of the week.  it was pretty cold today, so i drank a lot of hot water with lemon in between the smoothies which hit the spot (lies: a cup of lobster bisque would have hit the spot- it got the job done.)  i definitely had a headache all day, but i couldn’t tell if that was from caffeine withdrawal or the cold im trying to kick.

DAY TWO PREDICTION: I think after having a great day today, I will be ok hanger wise tomorrow.  I signed up for spin in the morning which might have been a bad idea, but figured I’d take it easy on the ol’ red knob turning if I feel like I’m running on empty.  (there’s about 15lbs of reserves in the tank, so I think i’ll be ok…)


Coming Soon to a Blog near you:  Yup, I signed up for another Half Marathon.  (Alternate Title: I haven’t run more than 4 miles in the past 7 months. This should be fun.)
